Project researcher Josep Minguell was invited by Museo Benozzo Gozzoli, in Castelfiorentino, to an artistic residence as part of the initiative BeCOME – Affrescare il Tabernacolo – Benozzo Gozzoli 1491 – Josep Minguell 2025. The residence was to result in a contemporary fresco for the chapel decorated by Benozzo Gozzoli in the fifteenth century with murals that, for conservation reasons, had to be removed and taken to the nearby museum that now bears his name.

The empty walls left by this removal now house a fresco by Josep Minguell, painted between 1st and 15th of June 2025. The residence included a public presentation by Minguell at the museum, on the 5th of June, attended by members of the public that were invited to follow his fresco practice live at the chapel. There, in addition to chat with the artist on the work he was producing, visitors were also able to view an exhibition of the preparatory drawings for the new fresco that will remain open to the public until November 2025.

This residence and exhibition is a collaborative initiative between Fondazione Teatro del Popolo, that runs the museum, and the Council of Castelfiorentino. Full photo story on https://www.instagram.com/museobenozzogozzoli
